Built in the 1930s by the engineering firm of Gustave Eiffel, the building that houses Le Louvre Hôtel & Spa is a special place. When you are here, you step into history. From 1930 to 1998, four stores succeeded one another in this building, as avant-garde as it was futuristic. When it opened, it was the GRAND MAGASIN DU LOUVRE, which later became Printemps, then Prisunic. An anecdote we love to tell at the Louvre: back when it was a department store, it had the very first escalator in Madagascar. Families came with their children to try what had become the main attraction of the city centre: a metal staircase that takes you up a floor without any effort. In 1998, the building became the Grand Hôtel du Louvre, a name chosen as a nod to the original GRAND MAGASIN DU LOUVRE. In 2008, it became Le Louvre Hôtel & Spa, a nod to the spa newly installed in the basement.
Now you know that you are in a unique hotel, both for its history and for its location: right in the heart of the capital, in a true breath of fresh air.
Today the hotel is defined by its multiculturalism, reflected in the diverse origins of its staff. Most are Malagasy, but the team also includes people from Bulgaria (represented by the General Manager), France, Gabon, Ukraine and Iran, all united to offer you tailor-made service beyond international standards.
